Posters

This is my poster for the 6th Formers, listing some reasons why they should volunteer. The pictures are relevant to the cause, and the puppy picture is eye-catching.
This is my poster for the teachers; it's a little bit more formal, but still has relevant colours and pictures.

Browick Road Pictures

Below are some pictures that were taken at the Theatre In Education workshop at Browick Road teo weeks ago. Each picture has a caption underneath so you can see exactly what is happening:

Be Able To Monior The Preparation Of a Campaign

Throughout the process of planning and conducting our Campaign we had to regularly monitor our progress and examine our achievements and aims.

One of our was to examine where we had succeeded and where we didn't succeed in our Campaign. I think we succeeded in our performances and presentations to the pupils at Browick Road, but we didn't succeed in the advertisement and promotion of our Campaign. I think this happened because we did not spread the awareness of our Campaigns  throughout the school enough.  In my opinion, we could of spread the awareness of our campaign more by sending letters home to the students' parents and spreading the news around the school. We also produced questionnaires for the pupils to answer.

Overall, I've learnt how to write letters in a formal way to other people, perform presentations to big groups of people, young or old, I've also found that I'm becoming more confident in being me. And i wish to use all of these skills to future use.

Be Able to Conduct a Campaign

Once we formulated our Campaign, we needed to put it into action. We organised our resources, for example our posters and leaflets, and put them up in varying different places around the school. We contacted Browick Road by writing them a letter saying if it was agreed that our group were coming to visit them on the 30th of November. We also sent letters to our Charity shop telling them what the progress of our Campaign was.

Be Able To Prepare a Campaign

For our campaign our main target audience was children and teenagers our own age. I think this would be the best target audience to choose as if teenagers donate their unwanted items, other teenagers would like it, and think of buying it. Where as if your target audience is the older generation, younger people wouldn't take any interest in buying from charity shops. We advertised and promoted our Campaign by putting posters up around the school, and handing out leaflets in the form registers. We also sent a letter to all the parents of the pupils at Browick Road Primary School, so that they would bring in their unwanted items when we visited their school. At the end of our Campaign, we measured our success by collecting our items that other people had donated, but unfortunately in our case we didn't collect any, as no one had donated anything to our group.

Dear Sir/Miss,
I am writing on behalf of the Creative and Media group from Wymondham High School, that visited you on the 5th of October. You asked us to collect more toys and to do this we launched a campaign and hoped to receive donations. We visited Browick Road Primary School and performed some presentations about charity, we asked them to bring in their unwanted toys, we also set up our own collection service, for the students and teachers to bring in their unwanted items. Unfortunately, due to the dates of our campaign, restricted time and not enough awareness, we have failed to get any donations to help your charity. We have though raised awareness so hopefully you will receive more donations from now on.

Yours faithfully,
Charlotte Godolphin

Our Visit To Browick Road

This morning we visited Browick Road for our Campaign research. We leaved Wymondham High School at 9.00 this morning and made our way to Browick Road. Our visit started with Ellie and Elliot  introducing us, who we were, and why we are visiting. Elliot, Ellie, Holly and Ryan then performed a scene about the Red Cross Charity, and what they do. Jacob, Cathy, Sam and Laura then did a performance about what you give to a charity shop. They imitated toys sitting on a young boys shelf, the 'toys' showed that they were lonely and they wanted playing with as Sam hadn't played with them for a long time. They then suggested that they should be donated to charity, therefore, Sam doesn't have to throw the toys in the bin, while raising money for children.

After the performances we split into our different groups, and went to the three different classes. We did a number of activities with the children to help them understand what charity is. After finishing the workshops the children's feedback was that they will defiantly donate more items to charity and they want to be able to share their things more with other people.

I think our Campaign work has been successful, but not as successful as I thought it might have been. For instance, I think our point came across quite well to the pupils of Browick Road and they're more aware of what charity means, not just for them but for other people to. But the Campaign didn't go as well as I hoped because nobody from Wymondham High School donated anything. I think this is because we didn't advertise the collection enough. This could be helped by putting leaflets in each register for every form. We could of also performed a presentation in an assembly, but the trouble with that is that nobody wanted to perform in front of such a big audience.

Over all we didn't do very well in collecting donations for Charity but we made a great deal of contribution to spreading the awareness of Charity, what they do, and who it helps.

Understand The Nature And Purpose Of Campaigns

MISSION
Children In Need's mission is to make a positive change to the lives of disadvantaged children and young people across the UK. The people who run the Children In Need charity hope to get adults and parents to support the children in the UK by donating their money which will go towards the help of the disadvantaged children. Children In Need get popular celebraties and well known people to come and perform in their studio and raise money. Members of the public also contribute to raising money, by doing bake sales, face painting, and a variety of other activities. Thousands of of schools across the country help raise money by holding Children In Need Day (CINDY), this is where children can pay a pound, and come to school in fancy dress.

HISTORY
The BBC's first broadcast appeal for children was a five-minute radio programme on Christmas Day in 1927. It raised £1,143 and the proceeds were shared with four prominent children's charities.

The first televised appeal was the 1955 'Children's Hour Christmas Appeal', presented by Sooty and Harry Corbett. The Christmas Day Appeals continued on TV and radio right up until 1979, raising a total of £625,836.

In 1980 the appeal was broadcast on BBC One in a new telethon format. It captured the public's imagination to such an extent that the donations increased dramatically and broke the million mark for the very first time.

Pudsey made his television debut in 1985 when Terry Wogan introduced the new, brown cuddly mascot to the audience. He proved very popular and returned as Children in Need's official logo the following year with his design amended to that of a yellow bear with a red spotted bandage.

In the two decades which have followed, countless cuddly bears have been sold to raise money for the charity. Apart from a party hat worn in 2004 to celebrate the telethon's silver jubilee, Pudsey has remained very much the same. But a 2007 revamp gave Pudsey a fresh new look and brighter colours in time for the 28th annual BBC Children in Need Appeal.

SUCCESS
The Children In Need charity has considerably successful, last year was the 30th BBC Children in Need Appeal and they raised a record breaking £39 million, which is a massive amount of money if you think the first year they only raised £1,143. They raised this big amount of money by everyone all over the UK contributes and helps raise money by also holding games and competitions of which the money goes towards charity. This year, Children in need have so far raised £18,098,199!! and its still rising!!

What We're Doing Today

Today Beth, Laura, Ross, Ryan, Freddie and I are each designing a poster or leaflet for the RSPCA charity. When we are all finished we will pick the best one to represent our poster. Beth's poster is encouraging people to volunteer at the shop, in Laura's leaflet shes trying to think of a convincing slogan which would make you stop and read the leaflet, and Ross, Freddie and Ryan are trying to find pictures of sad animals to go in the centre of the poster/leaflet.

Open 12.10.10

Last Tuesday we went to the Open Music Venue in Norwich for a Media Industries careers Convention! We listened to speakers on Music, Dance, Performance, Graphic Design and Animation. I found the music speech the best because they reassured me that there are lots of places you will be able to play at gigs or concerts and i knew that it would help me. The task for the day was to ask at least one question to one of the key speakers so, firstly, I spoke to Sophie Little. Sophie is the lead singer of the rock group "The Brownies". She gave me some really useful advice on how to start a band, and i gave my email to her so that she could contact me further so i could get more information. I also liked the speech on acting so when  it came to the one to one speaking, i spoke to Reece Ritchie. Reece is an actor and has played roles in 10,000 BC and The Lovely Bones. He, and the other actors, inspired me to look for auditions in Norwich. The last people I spoke to were the animators; they were really funny, but had some good tips on how to make animated films.

Over all i enjoyed the day very much and it has inspired me to got out and look for more opportunities :)

What we've done today

Today we visited the RSPCA charity shop, and the Hemstock's Jewellery store. We interviewed a few people on the thoughts and views on both the shops and we will be uploading them next lesson. At the moment we are making posters, leaflets and flyers for the RSPCA. We will be spreading them around the school and handing out the flyers to people, so we can spreaqd the awareness of the business.

RSPCA Interview

Today we visited the RSPCA Charity shop in Wymondham to discuss our campaign project. When we talked to the volunteers at the RSPCA charity shop, they said that the storage room in the back was full of clothes and donations that could not be sold because of there poor quality, so improving the quality of their donations would be very helpful. They also said that they would need more volunteers in their shop, because there isn't enough people to sort through the donations. We would like to help the RSPCA charity shop by spreading the awareness of the shop (where it is and what things could be donated). Our campaign is aimed at all ages, as we want to collect a variety of clothes for different ages.

Campaign - Lesson 1

We have just got given our task for campaigning. In groups we were given a charity shop in Wymondham to work with. We have to create posters, leaflets, television adverts and Radio broadcasts top advertise our charity. We've watched the video clips of 'Mary Queen of Shops' which shows mary portas going into a old grotty charity shop and organising and advertising it so it is more appealing to a wider range of people.

Artefact, Campaign, and Performance

This year we are looking at Artefacts, Campaigning and Performance. We will discover, understand and learn how and why artefacts are made, and we will be creating artefacts of our own. We will also look at how to create a campaign and see how they are planned, from posters and leaflets, to advertising such as on the internet. Finally we will look at the types of Performance and how they have developed over time.
